Birmingham Bulls @ Roanoke

The Bulls come out charging in the 1st period and get on the board quickly as Andy Bathgate hits the net just 1:44 into the game with assists from Evan Schultz and Alexander Taulien. Roanoke then takes advantage of the power play and even things up at 8:49. The home team Rail Yard Dawgs then take the lead at 13:34 with another goal but don’t hold it long. Birmingham’s Steven Phee will answer just 48 seconds later to tie it up again with assists from Nate Mitton and Shane Topf. The Bulls “penalty kill” unit will hold off the Dawgs after another minor called on Birmingham and the period will end tied 2-2. Birmingham’s shots top Roanoke in the first 13-7.

The Bulls’ Craig Simchuk will open second period scoring at 3:55 on the power play with Andy Bathgate assisting to regain the lead. The Bulls fail to capitalize on a power play and end the period on PK duty while retaining the 3-2 lead going to break. The Dawgs edge the Bulls 14-10 on shots for the 2nd period.
In a 3rd period that seemed to last forever, Roanoke outshot the Bulls 14-4. Once again, Mavric Parks proves his worth stopping all but 1. In a last ditch effort to beat Parks, the Dawgs pulled their goalie for an extra attacker but Keegan Bruce hits the empty net first with an assist from Andrew Darrigo and the Bulls lead by 2. As most figure this game to be over, a late Bulls penalty gives the Rail Yard Dawgs another chance and they take it by scoring with just 8 seconds on the clock. It’s gonna be too little, too late and the Birmingham Bulls will win 4-3 and gain 2 points on the 9th place Roanoke.
