Back on home ice against the RiverKings the Bulls take advantage of a power play to bite first on Sharknado night. Brandon Fehd puts a rebound in with assists from Keegan Bruce and Josh Harris (13:39). Persistence pays off as Alexander Taulien stuffs the second goal in with assists from Evan Schultz and Brandon Fehd (4:05) and the Bulls take a break up by 2. Mississippi has the edge on shots at 15-14 in the first.
Nate Mitton gets right back to work and lights it up just 43 seconds into the second period with assists from Steven Phee and Shane Topf. Lots of physical play until Mississippi scores on the tail end of a power play with 2:30 left in the second. Then, right off the face-off the RiverKings catch a steal and a one-on-one goal to make it 3-2 just 8 seconds later. The Bulls keep the lead as the period ends none too soon. Shots swing heavy in Mississippi’s favor 20-9.
To start the third period scoring, Evan Schultz gets a chance to show his moves and shows them well with an unassisted goal that made the goalie look silly. That gets the Bulls back up by 2 with 11:06 to go. Josh Harris will finish the night by slapping one across the zone to light it up with 2:03 left. Assists come from Darius Cole and Sean Gammage. The 3rd period shots swing back to the Bulls 12-5 (MRK 40 – BIR 35 total) and Birmingham prevails 5-2. Charlie Millen gets the win stopping 38 of 40 shots for a .950 sv% night.
